Muhammed had a tough life growing up, for he was raised by his grandfather and later by his unlce because his parents had died when he was younger.  He was apart of his uncle's caravan while growing up.  When he became older, he managed a caravan owned by a weathly lady, which later became his wife.  Muhammed meditated & prayed outside of the city of Mecca, and one morning, he heard an angel's voice speaking to him about God.  He then went back to Mecca, but he only shared this information with his wife.  Later on, he started the religion called Islam.  If you were Islam, you were known as a Muslim.
Muhammed had very few followers at first, and was soon forced to leave the city of Mecca because people didn't like what he was teaching.  It took several years until he was allowed back in Mecca, but while they wanted him out of Mecca, the city of Medina invited him to come live in their city.  One reason, was because they wanted to be apart of his group of followers.  After a while, he was accepted back into Mecca, and Islam became the main religion of the city
